unfold

1. Data Processed on Your Device

unfold reads data from Apple Health only after you explicitly grant permission through the iOS Health permission sheet. Access is read-only — unfold never writes to, modifies, or deletes anything in Apple Health.

All of this data is processed entirely on your device and is used only to render replays and statistics inside the app. None of it is transmitted to a server.

You can revoke Health access at any time in iOS Settings > Privacy & Security > Health.

2. Anonymous Usage and Diagnostics

To decide what to improve, unfold sends minimal usage data to a server. It is used for first-party product analytics (retention, feature funnels).

  • install_id — a random UUID generated once when the app first launches, stored in the app's local storage. Deleting the app deletes it; a reinstall generates a new one that cannot be linked to the old data.
  • event — a behavioral event only, such as "started a replay", "completed onboarding", "app session started", or "workout list was empty". No health values, routes, or coordinates are included.

unfold uses Sentry to collect anonymous crash reports and a sampled subset of performance diagnostics. These include technical details such as device model, OS version, and error stack traces, but never your health data, routes, coordinates, or account details — this data is not linked to your identity and is not used to track you.

3. Third-Party Services

ServiceRoleWhat it processesMore
Supabase Hosts the anonymous analytics storage. The aggregate analytics data above. As the hosting provider, it may transiently process IP addresses to deliver the service. Supabase privacy
Sentry Processes anonymous crash and performance diagnostics. Crash reports and sampled performance data (device model, OS version, error stack traces). No health data, routes, screenshots, or account details. Sentry privacy
Apple Maps Default map provider; renders map tiles and 3D terrain. Requested map areas and your device's IP address. Apple privacy
Mapbox Alternative map provider you can select in Settings (opt-in). Requested map areas and your device's IP address. The Mapbox SDK may additionally send its own de-identified usage data. Mapbox privacy

4. Legacy unfold 1.x Data

Versions of unfold before 2.0 offered email-based accounts, course editing, and sharing backed by a server. Those features are retired as of version 2.0.

  • The 1.x backend — including accounts and course data — will be deleted approximately one month after the 2.0 release.
  • Until August 31, 2026, you can email [email protected] to request a copy of the courses you created. Copies are delivered as GPX/GeoJSON files, and requests are matched to the email address of your 1.x account.
  • After that date, remaining backups are destroyed.

5. Your Choices and Rights

  • Health access. Revoke it at any time in iOS Settings > Privacy & Security > Health.
  • Replay Reminders. Off by default; enable or disable them whenever you like.
  • Analytics data. Because an install ID cannot be linked to a person, we cannot locate "your" records to fulfill an individual access or deletion request. Deleting the app permanently unlinks all past analytics data from you.
  • Questions and requests. Contact [email protected].
